ShiftWallet works out what each shift should pay, with your night premium, overtime and holiday rates, so you can hold it up against what you were actually paid. It runs on iPhone, iPad and Apple Watch only. I'm Jan Daniel Naftanaila and I build it on my own. It's free to start, with an optional Pro upgrade.

Who is it for?

Animated illustration: three workers on small platforms, each with the tool they need most. A nurse holds a shift calendar, a dog walker an invoice while his dog barks, and a warehouse worker a payslip and a phone that glows.

People whose pay changes from shift to shift: nights with a premium, overtime, public holidays, breaks that may or may not be paid. Nurses, warehouse staff, hospitality, security, care and retail workers, and people on zero-hours or agency contracts. If you work the same days every week at one flat rate, a spreadsheet will probably do.

What devices does it run on?

iPhone and iPad with iOS 17 or later. The Apple Watch app (watchOS 10) lets you clock in and out from your wrist and keep the running shift on your watch face. There are Home Screen and Lock Screen widgets, a Live Activity on the Lock Screen and in the Dynamic Island, and you can say "Clock in with ShiftWallet" to Siri. There's no Android and no web version.

What exactly is free, and what is Pro?

The free version is meant to be enough on its own for one job. You can clock in with one tap and see the shift and what you've earned so far on the Lock Screen, or add shifts afterwards, past ones included. A shift that ends after midnight goes onto the next day by itself. Breaks can be paid or unpaid, and a raise added with its start date doesn't change the shifts before it.

Setting up a job in ShiftWallet: $18 an hour and switches for night pay, overtime at 1.5 after 40 hours a week and public holidays

Your country's standard rules for the US, the UK, Spain or Germany are free, and you can switch the night premium and overtime on or off. Public holidays get their own rate, applied only to the hours that fall on the holiday. There's a rolled-up holiday pay percentage for the 12.07% used in Great Britain, and tips and bonuses go in as separate amounts. Exporting to CSV is free, and so are one full paycheck check, the widgets and the Apple Watch app.

The reminders are free too: when overtime starts, when you forgot to clock out, the day before payday and when you arrive at work. If you switch it on, the app can also clock you in when your phone joins the work Wi-Fi, as long as the app is open.

Pro is for contracts the standard rules don't fit. You can add as many jobs as you have, each with its own rate, and set your own rules. A night premium can be a percentage, a flat amount per hour or a set hourly rate, inside a window you choose. Overtime can start at your own threshold with your own multiplier, come in weekly tiers, or cover whole days from the Nth day you work in a week. You can also add rules by day and time, like a Sunday rate, and allowances.

Pro also makes paycheck checks unlimited and adds the tax estimate for the US, the UK, Spain and Germany (the German net pay figure on the Dashboard is free, the payslip-style breakdown is Pro). Exports go beyond CSV to PDF timesheets, Excel files and a full JSON backup. The rest is smaller: detailed charts, a weekly schedule that logs repeating shifts for you, and the AI payslip scanner and chat.

I don't put prices on this site. They're on the App Store page for your country, and that's the one place they're always current.

How do the country rules work?

ShiftWallet on an iPhone asking where you work, with the United States picked (FLSA 40 hours a week at 1.5). Two cards from the app: the United States card and the typical US extra pay, overtime at 1.5 after 40 hours a week, with nights and public holidays off.
  • United States. Overtime at 1.5 after 40 hours in a Sunday to Saturday week. A 10% night premium from 11pm to 7am and a 1.5 rate on federal holidays, both off until you turn them on. A 30 minute unpaid break by default.
  • United Kingdom. No overtime, no night premium and no holiday premium to start with, because UK law doesn't require any of them. You can switch on a 25% night premium from 11pm to 6am. A 20 minute unpaid break by default, and the bank holidays for England and Wales.
  • Spain. A 25% night premium from 10pm to 6am, which is a typical figure (the real one is set by your collective agreement), a 15 minute break counted as paid, and national holidays at double pay.
  • Germany. A 25% night premium from 11pm to 6am is a free switch, and the nine nationwide public holidays are built in, plus your state's once you pick it. When you set up a job, the template for the night, Sunday and holiday premiums that § 3b lets employers pay tax free is already picked: nights from 8pm to 6am at +25%, Sundays at +50% and public holidays at +125%. On the Dashboard you see an estimate of your net pay for free.
  • Anywhere else. A blank Custom setup: no premiums switched on, no holiday list and a 30 minute unpaid break by default. For free you can switch on a 25% night premium from 10pm to 6am and add your own public holidays with their rate. Your own night window, percentage and overtime rules need Pro.

In the UK and in Custom, setting up your first job also offers overtime at 1.5 after 40 hours a week as a free switch, for contracts that pay it. The country and currency apply to the whole app rather than to each job, so you can't have one job under UK rules and another under US rules at the same time. ShiftWallet supports 41 currencies.

What does the tax estimate cover?

Animated illustration: coins pour into a funnel, some drop aside into two trays as deductions and a smaller stack comes out at the bottom.

It's rough, and apart from the German net pay figure it's a Pro feature. In the US it's federal income tax as a single filer plus Social Security and Medicare, with 2024 tables. In the UK it's Income Tax and National Insurance with the standard tax code and 2024/25 tables, without Scottish rates. In Spain it's IRPF plus Social Security, or the self-employed RETA. In those three it doesn't know about pensions, student loans, benefits or your own withholding choices. Anywhere else you can type a flat percentage.

Germany has its own estimate. It works out wage tax, solidarity surcharge and church tax with the official 2026 formula from the Federal Ministry of Finance, plus your 2026 social security contributions, from your tax class, child allowances, federal state and health insurer, Minijobs and Midijobs included. Night, Sunday and holiday premiums that are tax free under § 3b are kept out of the wage tax and social security it works out, up to their limits, so the estimate doesn't tax them. You see the estimated net pay on the Dashboard for free, and the payslip-style breakdown is Pro. It assumes a normal monthly payroll and public health insurance, so it doesn't work if you're privately insured.

On r/nursing, a med-surg nurse said this to someone who had built a shift pay app:

"Doesn't look like yours accounts for taxes (state, fed, SSA, so on) or pre and post tax deductions. I can calculate gross pay without an app."

r/nursing, February 2026

ShiftWallet has the same gap for US state tax and pre-tax deductions. That's why the paycheck check works best with the gross figure.

How does the paycheck check work?

ShiftWallet on an iPhone showing a checked paycheck: $1,429.50 received against $1,458.00 calculated, off by $28.50. Two cards from the app: $1,458.00 from 8 shifts this pay period, and one night that earned $182.25, $28.50 of it night premium, the amount missing.

You type in what you were paid for a period and ShiftWallet puts it next to the total of your logged shifts for the same dates. With the gross from your payslip or pay stub, a gap of up to 1%, or up to one unit of currency, still counts as a match. If you only type in your take-home pay, it compares it with an estimate and never tells you you've been underpaid, because a net figure can't show that. The check also knows your pay calendar (cut-off dates, and premiums paid a period later) and tells you what could explain a difference before you raise it. You can also mark shifts as paid and see what you're still owed. The first full check is free. You can type the figures in yourself or, with Pro, scan the payslip.

Does it apply the FLSA regular rate in the US?

Yes, since version 2.4. Federal law puts a night differential into the regular rate before overtime is calculated, and ShiftWallet now does US overtime that way, with night and other premiums included. If your paycheck pays overtime on your base rate instead, the paycheck check shows it as a mismatch. In the night nurse example in the guide, 48 hours at $40 with night and weekend differentials, that mistake is worth $23 in one week. The calculator on this site does the same sum without the app.

Regular rate against 1.5 times the base rate48 hours at $40.00 an hour with $276.00 of differentials. Straight-time pay is $2,196.00, so the regular rate is $45.75 an hour, not $40.00. The overtime premium for the 8 hours over 40 is $183.00 with the regular rate and $160.00 at 1.5 times the base. The week should pay $2,379.00, not $2,356.00, so it comes out $23.00 short. The hourly rate overtime is based onFLSA regular rate$45.75 an hour$2,196.00 straight-time pay ÷ 48 h$1,920 for 48 h × $40.00+$240+$36= $2,196.00 straight-time pay$40.00 base+$5.75+$5.75 an hour: $276.00 of differentials ÷ 48 hBase rate only$40.00 an hour$40.00 baseOvertime premium for the 8 hours over 40half the hourly rate for each overtime hourWith the regular rate$183.008 × half of $45.75+$23.00At 1.5 × base$160.008 × half of $40.00$23.00 short this weekWeek total: $2,379.00 under the FLSA, $2,356.00 at 1.5 × base.Regular rate against 1.5 times the base rate48 hours at $40.00 an hour with $276.00 of differentials. The night nurse's week from the tables above. The differentials raise the hourly rate that overtime is worked out on.

Does it keep track of my holiday in the UK?

Animated illustration: blank blue cards slide one by one onto a pile of shifts while gold coins drop into a glass jar, which fills slowly toward the gold line on the glass.

Partly. It adds a rolled-up holiday pay percentage to every hour, and you can log the time off you take. To work out the holiday you build up at 12.07% in one pay period, use the holiday pay calculator.

Do I need an account?

No. You can start without one and your shifts are still backed up, so you don't lose them if you change phones. You can sign in with Apple, Google or email whenever you like.

Can I use it as proof of my hours?

ShiftWallet on an iPhone with the timesheet: 8 night shifts, 76 hours and $1,458.00. Two cards from the app: one night from 9:00 PM to 7:00 AM, 9 hours 30 minutes and $182.25 with 1 hour 30 minutes of overtime and 7 hours 36 minutes of night, and this week at 47 hours 30 minutes, 119% of a 40 hour goal.

It's your own record, and a good one if you clock in as you go. Live clock-ins save the time and, if you allow it, your location at clock-in, and shifts typed in later are marked Manual. You can also export a dated proof of hours, as a CSV for free or as a PDF with Pro. For each shift it says how it was logged (clocked in live, typed in later, brought in from your schedule or clocked in with an earlier time) and when, and it lists every change and deletion made afterwards, a history the app doesn't let you delete. A SHA-256 fingerprint ties the PDF to the CSV, and your clock-in location only goes in if you ask for it. It isn't signed, though, and it doesn't replace your employer's records. The guide to keeping your own record of hours goes through what makes a record useful.

What languages is it in?

The app is in English, Spanish, German, French, Dutch and Swedish. This website is in English, Spanish and German.

How do I contact you?

Through the support page, or by email to jan@digitalnafta.com. The privacy policy and the terms are on this site too. If you're still deciding, the comparison page says when another app is the better pick.

The short answers

Is ShiftWallet available on Android?

No. It's iPhone and iPad only, on iOS 17 or later, plus an Apple Watch app that needs watchOS 10. There's no Android app and no web version. The Shift Wallet you may find on Google Play is a money transfer app from another company.

Is ShiftWallet the same as Shift Wallet, the money transfer app?

No. ShiftWallet, written as one word, is an app for logging your shifts and checking your pay. I make it, and the address of its App Store page ends in id6761481192. Shift Wallet, the money transfer app from Shift Financial Services (shifttransfer.com), is another company's app, on Google Play and the App Store. ShiftWallet has nothing to do with the SHIFT crypto token either.

Is ShiftWallet free?

ShiftWallet is free to start, with an optional Pro upgrade. The free version covers clocking in and out, adding shifts later, one job with your country's standard rules, CSV export and one full paycheck check. Pro adds unlimited jobs, your own pay rules, unlimited paycheck checks, tax estimates and PDF and Excel exports. In Germany the net pay estimate on the Dashboard is free. Current prices are on the App Store.

Where does ShiftWallet store my data?

On your iPhone, with a copy in ShiftWallet's cloud backup on Google Firebase, even if you never create an account. The pay calculations run on the phone. The optional AI payslip scanner and chat in Pro send the image or data you choose to OpenAI through a ShiftWallet server, and the app asks for your consent first.

Does ShiftWallet calculate state taxes?

No. The US tax estimate, which is a Pro feature, covers federal income tax as a single filer plus Social Security and Medicare, using 2024 tables. It doesn't include state or local income tax or your pre-tax deductions, so treat it as a rough guide rather than your actual withholding.

Which countries does ShiftWallet have pay rules for?

The United States, the United Kingdom, Spain and Germany. When you set up a job, ShiftWallet offers pay templates for those four. In the US, the UK and Spain it starts from that country's usual overtime, night and break rules, and in Germany the template sets up the night, Sunday and holiday premiums that § 3b lets employers pay tax free. Anywhere else you start with nothing switched on: a standard 25% night premium is a free switch, and your own windows, rates and overtime rules need Pro. Tax estimates cover the same four countries.

Does ShiftWallet work offline?

Yes. You can clock in, add shifts and see your pay without signal, which helps on a ward or a warehouse floor. Your shifts sync to the cloud backup once you're back online.

Does the payslip scanner send my payslip to AI?

Yes, if you use it. The scanner is a Pro feature that reads a photo or PDF of your payslip with OpenAI's gpt-4o, sent through a ShiftWallet server, and the app asks for your consent before the first scan. If you'd rather the image didn't go to OpenAI, type the figures in yourself. Either way, the verdict on your pay comes from the app's own sums. The AI only reads the image.
